Faughart Community National School’s policies are created in conjunction with staff members, school community and Board of management. They are tailored to suit the needs of our school. Our policies are working documents which will change with the changing needs of our school.

This Document outlines the school policy and procedures for the Anti-Bullying procedures for Faughart CNS. A review of our anti-bullying policy and procedures was completed by the teachers in November and December 2020 and ratified by the Board of Management at a meeting on 1st February 2022. The Board of Management completed its annual review of the anti-bullying policy on 20th June 2023 and look forward to implementing the action plan in line with the Cinéaltas Action Plan on Bullying and Implementation plan.
This document outlines the school’s policy on permitted usage of the internet. The policy applies to all internet users in Faughart CNS and all methods of internet access, including desktop computers, laptop computers, mobile telephony, tablets and other devices capable of accessing the internet. The policy was updated in October 2020 to include guidelines on the use of the internet while learning from home. The policy was updated in November 2023 to specifically exclude the pupil use of personal mobile phones in school or on the school bus. This policy has been prepared with reference to ‘Managing Chronic Health Conditions at School – A resource pack for teachers and parents’ prepared by the Asthma Society of Ireland, Diabetes Federation Ireland, Brainwave the Irish Epilepsy Association and Anaphylaxis Ireland and IPB Insurance Risk Management Guidance on Managing Students with Medical Conditions and Disabilities (2013).
Eastablising good attendance habits from the very beginning is very important. The policy was drawn up by the school staff and reviewed and ratified by the Board of Management. Faughart Community National School aims to protect the well-being of its students and staff by providing a safe and nurturing environment at all times as outlined in our school’s mission statement. The Board of Management, through the Principal, has drawn up a Critical Incident Management Plan as one element of the school’s policies and plans.
Managing Health and Safety at our School is an ongoing activity throughout the year. This Safety Statement is a live written document which provides details of how we manage health, safety and welfare at our school. This Safety Statement along with our Risk Assessments form the basis of our Safety Management System.

Through the development and implementation of this Healthy Eating Policy, Faughart CNS aims to help all those involved in our school community to develop positive and responsible attitudes to eating and to appreciate the contribution that good food makes to health. Ratified by Faughart CNS Board of Management on 07 November 2023.

Homework is part of the continuous learning process at Faughart CNS. This policy details reasons for homework, types of homework that may be given to pupils at different stages, recommendations on time to be spent on homework, advice on conditions that should be available to the child for doing homework and what to do if problems arise.

The homework policy was reviewed by teachers and parents in October 2020 and ratified by the Board of Management in November 2020 to include guidelines on remote learning and homework completion using the internet.

The homework policy was reviewed by teacher, parents in September 2022 and ratified by the Board of Management on 13th September to include parent communication via Aladdin App with regard to any homework problems.

In Faughart CNS, we provide a foundation that will inform the child’s actions and decisions. SPHE is spiral in nature we will cover the content at each level throughout the school over a two year period.

The SPHE policy was reviewed by staff and parents in September 2022 and ratified by the Board of Management on September 13th 2022.

All schools are required to have an RSE policy to detail how RSE is taught in the school, including the sensitive aspects. This policy is an approved approach to the teaching of Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE). It was developed to inform teachers and parents as to what material is covered in the RSE programme within SPHE. Ratified by Faughart CNS Board of Management on 07 November 2023

The aim of the Stay Safe programme is to teach children personal safety skills so they can look after themselves in situations which could be upsetting or dangerous. This programme is completed in full in Faughart CNS in a two year cycle, however topic 3 on Touches is completed every year.

Through our school’s Physical Education programme, we aim to help pupils take an interest in physical activity during their free time, at home, in the community and at school. We recognise the role of Physical Education in providing children with a truly balanced and child centered active education.

The PE plan was reviewed by staff and parents and ratified by the Board of Management on November 8th 2022.
